Decussocarpus nag-the tree of Hsinchu County Podocarpaceae

Decussocapus nag is evergreen podocarpus with heights from 8 to 20 meters. Its shape is like a cone and the tree crown is an ideal embellishment for gardens. As its texture resembles Chinese fir, it is also called "mountain Chinese fir." Due to camellia been elected as the flower of the country in 1984 but no the tree of Hsinchu county, county government selected Decussocapus as the tree of Hsinchu county in the interim meeting in March of 1999 because it is an evergreen tree and symbolizes the long life of the county.
Muller's Barbet-the bird of Hsinchu County

Muller's barbet also names as huanghoshang (a monk in colorful clothes) in Taiwan. It has colorful feathers and cries like Chinese monks tapping on the woodblock white chanting scriptures. Hakkanese people call it a tree-pecker. Muller's barbet rests on the top of forests located at medium-low elevation in daytime and lives inside the cave it pecks in decayed trees. They like all kinds of seeds. There held an election for the bird of the county at county cultural center in 1999. Muller's barbet got most of polls and was elected as the bird of Hsinchu County. Muller's barbet represents the good ecosystem and Hsinchu County owns rich natural scenery; thus, the bird of the county is more meaningful.

Camellia-the flower of Hsinchu County

Hsinchu county is the main country for agriculture and abounds in tea production. The tea planted area and production were once over a third of Taiwan. The famed Tong Fan Beauty tea has been famous from home to abroad. Camellia is a woody flower with high decoration value. The shape camellia trees is various and the leafs is glossy. Flowers of camellia are filled with more changes. When camellia blossoms, its flowers captivate the soul of visitors. County government selected camellia as the flower of Hsinchu County in 1984. It just represents the characteristics of villages and the view of agriculture.
